Italian Rapier

Modern pedagogy with historical roots by diving into the systems of Giganti and Capoferro

1 h1305 SE Grand Avenue

Service Description

This course focuses on the Single Rapier, providing students with a structured, technical framework for the duel. Our curriculum is deeply rooted in the historical lineage of masters Nicoletto Giganti and Ridolfo Capoferro. To ensure a modern, accessible learning experience, we utilize the pedagogical framework of Dr. William Gaugler’s The Science of Fencing. By bridging historical tradition with clear, modern terminology, we allow fencers to focus on what matters: precision, timing, and tactical logic. What You Will Learn: In this course, practitioners will move from fundamental posture to complex tactical exchanges. The curriculum covers: - The Mechanics of the Duel: Master the en garde, precise footwork, and the explosive power of the Italian lunge and recovery. - Blade Control: Develop an instinctive understanding of the four primary hand positions and the "Line of Direction." - Offense and Defense: Learn to navigate the distances of stretta and larga, utilizing direct ripostes, glides, and the strategic use of thrusts over cuts. - The Art of Engagement: Gain the ability to "find" and engage the opponent's steel, recognizing faulty positions and executing perfect disengagements in time. ✅ Pre-requisites: - Complete the Longsword Beginners Fundamentals course and Pass the Green Cord LS Exam - Or have previous swordplay experience approved by instructor - Mask / Gorget / Gloves (Loaner gear available)
