Service Description

Our Intermediate Longsword program is designed for students who have a beginner foundation and are ready to deepen their understanding of historical fencing through focused, progressive training. This class teaches the core techniques that develop tactical decision-making and sparring skill sets. We explore these techniques through structured partnered drills, carefully scaffolded to support all experience levels. Whether you’ve just completed Fundamentals or you’re returning for deeper refinement, this class meets you where you are. ✅ Pre-requisites: - Complete the Beginners Fundamentals course or have previous swordplay experience approved by instructor - Mask / Gorget / Gloves (Loaner gear available) Classes follow a rotating 6-month curriculum, with each unit offering a focused deep dive into a key aspects of Italian two handed sword tradition: 🔁 Monthly Rotating Units Include: Forms & Guards: - Connect with the core of Fiore’s system through his 12 poste (guards) - Develop strong, functional body structure - Learn Assaults (solo forms) to build fluidity and precision Approaching & Receiving Gioco Stretto (The Close Play): - Learn control in the bind with structure, leverage, and tempo - Find and gain the opponent’s weapon as well as recover control when you lose it - Respond to the three pressures in the bind - Culminates with the Four Rules of the True Fight Approaching & Receiving Gioco Largo (The Wide Play): - Work at the outer reaches of measure, where the point is often offline - Practice Primo Tempo entries and use Stringere to close safely under cover - Culminates in defending multiple strikes and finding the right tempo to strike Grappling - Build body structure with the sword in hand and to break your opponents - Learn grappling techniques at the distance of the sword, hand, elbow, shoulder, and back - Practice counters, recoveries, and finding the tempo for a grapple
